Before starting up Hipsleepers I was a partner in a small law firm in Melbourne. Whilst still on maternity leave, I did my best to contribute to the firm. One fateful day in 2015, a few weeks into Mackenzie’s treatment, I was attending a meeting by phone with about 4 or 5 others who were all in a boardroom together at the office. I had scheduled the meeting at a time when Mackenzie was supposed to be asleep but, of course, she refused to sleep that day.
Mackenzie was only around 3 months old so I couldn’t really distract her with the Ipad. Instead, I gave her a dummy, put her in her bean bag and tried to make silly faces at her while attempting to have a serious conversation in the meeting.
All of a sudden, she made a very loud, disgusting noise and I realised what had happened straight away. She’d had a massive nappy blowout. My heart sunk and I prayed that no one heard it over the phone. It was the worst possible time in the meeting for this to happen as I couldn’t hang up or even excuse myself.
So I kept my voice cool and continued to participate in the meeting whilst at the same time watching Mackenzie’s onesie slowly change colour. Before long I could see a distinct Pavlik Harness shape in the grossness. It was truly horrifying. I have recreated the scene in this gif for your enjoyment.
Luckily Mackenzie had just graduated from 24/7 treatment to 23/7 treatment so that harness went straight into the wash the second the meeting was over. I dread to think how that would have played out a week earlier with only “spot cleaning” allowed!
Anyway, after that I used nappy covers over disposables without fail and that’s my hot tip for all Pavlik Harness families out there!
